“But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness” (Psalm 86:15, ESV). Once again the compassionate character of God defines the psalmist’s hope, and focuses the faith of God’s people. After reflecting on God’s kindness (v.13), David lamented the evil men arrayed against him (v.14). In the face of danger and the schemes of the wicked, God’s redeeming love is the solace of all who trust in Him.
In trouble and trials, danger and distress, fix your eyes on God’s unfailing love. The Lord is compassionate and kind; He hears the prayers of His children, and in His mercy cares for them. He has not left us alone, and His mercy ever invites us to draw nearer to Him and walk in His presence and peace.
