According to His Promise

“Let your steadfast love comfort me according to your promise to your servant” (Psalm 119:76, ESV).

God’s word is a word of promise, and here God’s people find hope. Psalm 119 rejoices in God’s law, His instruction, His teaching, His word; but we must not think that the law of the Lord is only severity, and forget that His teaching is true and is the path of life. His law comes together with promise, for revelation is the gift of God’s steadfast love. The Scriptures are given so that we may draw near, and find salvation in the gospel of the love of God.

Find comfort in God’s steadfast love. When you are burdened with worry, fear, guilt or grief, remember the promises of God and the unfailing hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Let the word of salvation—by faith in the atoning death and victorious resurrection of Jesus our Lord—strengthen you against all the trials of this earthly life.
