“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” (Psalm 46:10, ESV). Just before the repeated refrain of God’s protecting presence (v.11, earlier in v.7) comes this moving divine declaration of God’s glory. He who shelters His people will one day be universally exalted; even as we face the chaos of this world, God’s people can be assured that the present situation is temporary. God, in His time and by His mighty arm, will set all things right. Therefore we are to heed the comforting command: “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Rest all your fears in the sovereign glory of God Almighty. We are so tempted to worry, tempted to fear and fret; but we are called to be still and know that He is God. His kingdom will advance, His majesty will be displayed, His authority will be acknowledged—in His time and in His way. What a comfort to rest in the supremacy of God. Be still, and know that He is God.
