“Arise, O God, defend your cause; remember how the foolish scoff at you all the day!” (Psalm 74:22, ESV). After giving voice to the sense of desolation (vv.1-11), the psalmist reflected upon the mighty works of God in the past (vv.12-17). The psalm ends with a plea for God to show His justice and vindicate His people (vv.18-23). So verse 22 carries a note of indignation at the brazenness of those who mock God, and suggests the Lord’s triumph over all who oppose Him.
God will set all things right. Injustice and evil are temporary; the mockery of truth and goodness that we see now proceeds only because of God’s gracious forbearance, and it will not endure. Trust in the Lord, and follow Christ. God’s triumph is sure.
