Certain Victory

“Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve. He went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers how he might betray him to them. And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. So he consented and sought an opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of a crowd” (Luke 22:3-6, ESV).

What a mystery is the cross of Christ! For this Jesus came, and set His sight, and persisted unto the end. The cross was the saving plan of God. Yet wicked men conspired to bring it about, and Satan himself moved the traitor Judas to betray the Lord to this death. The devil did not know he was working towards his own defeat. Here is the ultimate example of God’s secret design, unwittingly advanced by wicked forces with wicked purposes—but ultimately to the salvation of the lost and the glory of God.

Hope in God. Evil only ever seems triumphant; God’s victory is certain. While we journey in this world we endure pain and hardship, but our Lord has gone before us, and has carried for us the greatest burden, which we could not possibly bear. For all those who belong to Christ, joy eternal awaits.
