For the Lord

“Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain” (Psalm 127:1, ESV).

This Song of Ascents comes from that great king of Israel’s golden age, Solomon. He it was who built the temple, the ‘house’ for the Lord; here he says that any house should only be built in the strength of the Lord. God is able to do all things, and if we want anything to have enduring value, we should do it for God’s glory, in His power.

May the Lord give us obedient and humble hearts, to bring everything we do before Him in worship. May we seek His will in what we do, His strength to get it done, and His glory as the ultimate aim of every endeavor. We belong to God, and living as His creatures we will find joy and meaning.
