“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant” (Luke 1:46-48, ESV).
These words begin the joyful poetic declaration of Mary, which in church history has become known as the Magnificat. Reflecting on the wonder of God’s work, she praised God for His mighty deliverance of His people. Rejoicing in the gospel, we echo these words of grateful awe—for God has looked upon us in our lowliness and lostness, and sent His Son to redeem us.
May your soul glorify the King this Christmas, and your heart delight in His wonderful work. May the marvel of Christ’s coming fill you with joy and a sense of the awesome depths of the love of God, and peace in His Fatherly care.
