“We give thanks to you, O God; we give thanks, for your name is near. We recount your wondrous deeds” (Psalm 75:1, ESV). Psalm 75 is concerned with God’s justice, both in vindicating the righteous and in punishing the wicked—with an emphasis on the latter. But the two sides of justice are connected, and both emerge from the righteous and holy character of God. The Lord is King, and He will do right. As He has shown in the past, so He will faithfully carry out in the future.
God’s people have confidence, for the God of justice is near. He will judge right, according to truth. The unjust ways of this world will not have the last word. In suffering, rest your hope in the God who vindicates all those who trust in Jesus Christ, and carry on with joy that overcomes the darkness of the world.
