“Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob!” (Psalm 81:1, ESV). This psalm begins on a note of joyful exuberance, praising God for His deliverance. The psalmist proceeds to describe the gracious offer of salvation that God extends to an unfaithful nation. Those who chase false gods suffer, but the Lord’s arms are open to those who turn to Him. Though the words were spoken first to Israel, the reference to “the God of Jacob” should be an encouragement to all of God’s people—all who are sons of Abraham by faith.
Rejoice in God’s mighty power, in His faithfulness to save. In all of life’s hardships, we have this invincible comfort: that God has loved us more than we can possibly grasp, and sent His Son to be our Savior. May you take courage in Him as you go through your days, and turn life’s trials into praise.
