“For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you” (Psalm 86:5, ESV). The eighty-sixth psalm mingles petition and praise in a plea for God’s deliverance. David calls to the Lord, leaning upon God’s compassion and redeeming power in the face of the designs of the wicked (v.14). Verse 5 underlines the gracious character of God, the hope of those who turn to Him in faith.
God is kind and merciful. Look to Him for deliverance, in any and every circumstance. His compassion does not depend upon our worthiness, and His power is not limited by any opposition. God is able to save, and gracious to deliver those who turn to Christ in faith; God’s people cling continually to the cross, and find mercy in every need.
