Good to All

“The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made” (Psalm 145:9, ESV).

David speaks in adoration of God’s abundant kindness. This verse follows one of the psalms’ most comforting refrains, “The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love” (v.8). We see God’s universal goodness and mercy in His continued sustaining of the earth, in His patience in prolonging this season where the gospel is offered, and in His restraining the powers of evil. There is much sorrow and hardship in this life, yet God’s mercy and goodness abound to us—far more than we deserve.

Give thanks to God for all His kindness. Despite our wandering hearts, He cares for us and provides for us every day. May the goodness of the Lord turn us away from sin and towards devotion, that we may walk gratefully in His love.
