Greatly to be Praised

“For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the LORD made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary” (Psalm 96:4-6, ESV).

The psalm’s exultant praise continues, with a particular focus on the worthiness and uniqueness of God. Worship is our right and good response to the greatness of His glory. He is greater than all other ‘gods’—for He is the only God! He is the Creator, the glorious and mighty Lord to whom is all honor and praise.

Rejoice in the greatness of God. None can compare with Him, whose splendor and might exceed our imagination. God your Maker has reached down to you in Jesus Christ, to draw you to Himself. May the thought of His incomparable glory and uncontestable might strengthen you as you face the challenges of the day.
