“For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God” (Psalm 86:10, ESV). As the 86th psalm continues, David extols the uniqueness and supremacy of God. He cares for His people and hears their prayers (vv.5-7). The supposed ‘gods’ of the pagans cannot compare with the true God, and indeed the pagan nations will one day turn to the true Lord (vv.8-9). The true God is known by His marvelous deeds; in reality He is the only God.
God alone is our confidence. In a pluralistic world of many ‘gods’—the literal ‘gods’ of other religions, and the secular ‘gods’ of wealth, self-fulfillment, and so on—we recognize that our God is the only God, and that He alone can save. Let us trust Him in every challenge and danger, knowing He able, wise, loving, and good.
