He Knows You

“O LORD, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar” (Psalm 139:1, ESV).

David’s opening words in this well-known psalm describe the comfort of the soul who knows himself to be fully known by God. The Lord’s knowledge of His creatures is complete. He knows both their deeds and thoughts; and, while this is certainly a truth with a convicting edge, the emphasis in this psalm is on the peace and assurance that God’s children have in Him.

God knows you. God knows your every thought and word and action. God knows every need in your life, every obstacle you face, every hurt you carry, every worry that weighs on you, every fear and longing. When we pray, we are not informing God of anything He didn’t know; we are entrusting to Him all our cares. And we can trust Him, for God is wise, loving, good, and powerful. He is able to bring us through every trial.
