Hold onto Him
“I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it” (Psalm 81:10, ESV). Psalm 81, which began exuberantly, turns into a plea that God’s people would return to Him. He is their God, their deliverer who has called them to Himself (vv.1-10). Yet the people have turned away (v.11-12), which always leads to sorrow. God calls His people back to Himself with the promise of rescue and restoration (vv.13-16). Verse 10 stands at the junction, a reminder that God is our Savior, and will care for those who turn to Him.
Hold onto God, and return to Him when you wander. The Lord is merciful to receive those return to Him, and strong to save those who call upon Him. We are tempted to rely upon ourselves and the powers of this world; but God is the only deliverer, Christ the only way of salvation. Draw near to Him, and He will lift you up.
