“I rise before dawn and cry for help; I hope in your words. My eyes are awake before the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promise. Hear my voice according to your steadfast love; O LORD, according to your justice give me life” (Psalm 119:148-149).
Anyone acquainted with desperation can resonate with the psalmist’s words, even if you haven’t shared his exact experiences. Crises break through the false securities we set up in our hearts, and all of the shallow distractions of life, and draw us back to our utter need for God. In such times, as at all times, His steadfast love is our true hope and security.
Our struggles can be useful if they turn our eyes heavenward. When weariness, worry, sorrow and fear take hold, the way forward is to meditate on God’s promises. He cares for us; He hears the voice of His children, according to His steadfast love. Turn to Him for help, and wait upon the Lord.
