“I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the LORD!’” (Psalm 122:1, ESV).
Psalm 122 is labeled “A Song of Ascents. Of David.” Those familiar with the story of that poet-king can well imagine him penning these words of exuberant praise for those who would journey up the hill to Jerusalem to worship. What strikes us most is the delight at the thought of worship, the eager desire for the presence of God. How unlike is this thought to what so often, if we are honest, we see in our own hearts!
Embrace the privilege of worship. God has graciously reached down to us, to draw us into His family, into His presence, so that we may love and live with Him. If we will turn our hearts to what is worthiest and best—the glory of God—we will know joy even amid the struggles and strife of this earthly life.
