“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot” (Psalm 91:11-13, ESV). Psalm 91 continues to declare the providential protection of God for His people. Those who trust Him are sheltered by His fatherly care. A second providence is that this passage is guarded from misuse by the Lord’s example; it was misused by Satan to tempt Jesus, and the Lord replied with a reminder that God’s promises don’t justify taking Him for granted (Lk. 4:9-12).
Take courage in a dangerous world; God protects His own. No danger that we can face is beyond God’s strength to save; no peril in our path catches Him by surprise. If we walk in the way God leads us, we can have every confidence that He will guard our steps. Life is hard, but God is good.
