In the Name of the LORD

“Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 124:8, ESV)

Psalm 124 is another hymn of David, and another Song of Ascents for the pilgrims coming up to Jerusalem. The singers reflect on how essential the help of the Lord is for their salvation. If God hadn’t acted for their rescue, their enemies would have destroyed them (vv.1-5). But God is kind, and so they gratefully acknowledge His deliverance (vv.6-7). God, the Creator of all that is, delivers His people from trouble (v.8).

Praise God for all His kindness to you, and trust Him in all things. He who stretched out the cosmos is fully able to deal with anything you are going through, and wise and trustworthy to care for you. Whatever dangers or obstacles we face, let us remember who is our help: the Lord God Almighty, our Maker and Redeemer.
