In Unity
“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!” (Psalm 133:1, ESV).
In another Song of Ascents, David proclaims the blessing of unity. The goodness of true community is compared to abundance of anointing oil (v.2) or the water that nourishes Jerusalem (v.3)—images that may not strike us as readily as the first readers of this psalm, but which emphasize the goodness of God’s care and provision for His chosen people. Such is the blessing when His people are one.
May the Lord give us unity in Him. How easily we become divided, how readily we give in to quarrels and bitterness. But Christ offers His people peace. Let us seek peace in the Lord, that we may have joy in Him together, and together enter into His mission to this lost and hurting world.
