“To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens!” (Psalm 123:1, ESV).
Another song of ascents, and the worshipper looks up not only to Jerusalem, but beyond the city to the heavenly throne of God. This upward gaze is a description of dependence and loyalty, like a servant looking to the master (v.2). The wicked and proud may oppress, but God is merciful to deliver, and His people wait for Him (vv.3-4).
When you are troubled, lift up your eyes to the King, enthroned on high. For a little while the wicked have their way, but the day of judgment and restoration is coming. We never need despair or fear, only trust God who reigns over all. He will redeem His people from all trouble, and bring us safely home.
