“Then he led out his people like sheep and guided them in the wilderness like a flock. He led them in safety, so that they were not afraid, but the sea overwhelmed their enemies” (Psalm 78:52-53, ESV). The psalmist recalls both the faithlessness of the people and the faithfulness of God their deliverer. How tragic to treat have a rebellious heart (vv.40-42), when God has worked a mighty deliverance for His people (vv.42-51). How wicked to forget God’s kindness towards us, or His mighty overthrow of the powers of evil. But that is the faithlessness of the fallen heart.
God is gracious to His children, and strong to deliver them from every enemy God is gracious to His children, and strong to deliver them from every enemy. Remember His works of mercy and might, and live in gratitude for all He his kindness. God shepherds His people, and He will care for those who trust in Jesus Christ. The darkness of this age will not endure; but God’s kingdom will endure forever.
