“When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, ‘The LORD has done great things for them.’ The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad” (Psalm 126:1-3, ESV)
This Song of Ascents joyfully remembers God’s work in restoring His people. God’s work is so amazing that it may seem like a dream; can this really be? And what celebration the people knew when God acted so marvelously! The language is all of gladness: laughter, joyful cries, and the testimony of others that God has done greatly for them.
We, too, will know the joy of God’s deliverance, if we walk with Him. Through the shadows we will pass, sheltered by His strong right arm. When the darkness of this life has faded, we will know the fullness of God’s redeeming might, and the joy of the saints in eternity. In Christ, we may taste this gladness, even as we wait for the fullness to come.
