Longing for the Promise
“My eyes long for your salvation and for the fulfillment of your righteous promise” (Psalm 119:123, ESV).
God’s promises are good, and His word is so formative in the hope of His people that the psalmist can describe his longing for God’s promise to come to pass. There are seasons of life where we are called to wait, to endure for a time with only God’s word as our consolation that the way things appear is not how things will endure.
Remember the promises of God when you walk through difficult days. Trials test our faith, and create opportunities for us to persevere, to draw closer to the Lord, to lean upon His Word, and to grow closer through it all. They also remind us that this world is not our home, and that our longing ultimately is not for anything this earthly life can bring, but for the eternal home with God that is ours in Christ.
