“Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the LORD on high is mighty” (Psalm 93:4, ESV). This short psalm celebrates the supremacy of God, to the delight of His people. It begins affirming God’s reign and regal might, together with the stability of His creative work (v.1), then emphasizes the ancient claim of His authority, rooted in His everlasting existence (v.2). The roar of the waters expresses but fails to capture the power of the Most High (vv.3-4). The final verse expresses, in quieter terms, the goodness and glory of God (v.5).
Our God is the Almighty Deliverer, the Sovereign Savior, the Eternal King. The fury of the ocean, with all its rage of wind and wave, is a pale echo of the omnipotent strength of God. May the Lord strengthen your faith and firm up your courage as you fix your eyes upon His invincible might.
