My Soul Waits

“I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord, more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning” (Psalm 130:5-6, ESV).

The psalmist cries out to God (vv.1-2) who forgives sins (vv.3-4), and fixes his hope upon the Lord’s saving power. This is the patient determination of faith—to “wait for the LORD”. And though faith holds on with steadfast patience, it is also earnest and heartfelt in the longing for God’s deliverance, as expressed by the comparison with the night watchmen’s longing for the light of dawn.

Set your heart upon the Lord, and wait eagerly for His deliverance. We place our hopes and desires upon so many things; but do we earnestly wait for the Lord? Those who trust in Him are not disappointed, those who wait for Him will find at last their hope fulfilled. May the Lord give us eager hearts fixed upon Himself.
