“If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,’ even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you” (Psalm 139:11-12, ESV).
After marveling at the totality of God’s knowledge and omnipresence, David captures in these gripping words the certainty of God’s watching over His people. Darkness, which brings fear and danger, is no hindrance to God. He called light into being, and His perfect vision pierces every darkness. Nothing can shut His people away from His shepherding care and power to save.
Fear not. Though the world is full of dangers and troubles, though darkness may come, fear not. Nothing can stand in God’s way, nothing can close you off from His presence. All of our struggles are opportunities for faith; and if we meet our troubles and worries and fears with faith, we will find God’s saving mercy carries us through.
