“You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield” (Psalm 115:11, ESV).
Psalm 115 began with giving praise and honor to God (vv.1-3), then turned towards the contrast with the idols of the pagans, which are powerless (vv.4-8). Verses 9-11 call on God’s people to trust Him, establishing the point by three parallel exhortations. God’s people should look to Him alone; He alone is able to save and defend His children. This calling remains for the people of God today.
Let us keep our trust fixed wholly upon the Lord God Almighty. The powers of this world cannot save; our own strength is not enough to deliver ourselves; the promises of worldly saviors will always fall short. But God is able, strong to protect and redeem. Those who trust in Him will not be disappointed in the end.
