“The LORD has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all” (Psalm 103:19, ESV).
Towards the end of this psalm, with all of its descriptions of God’s kindness and mercy, comes the much-needed reminder of His sovereign authority. Compassion without strength is comforting, but ineffective; we need not only the graciousness of God’s love, but His awesome power to save. True encouragement comes in knowing that God is mighty and merciful, gracious and great, able to redeem all who trust in Him.
May the almighty authority of God be your strength today. Lift up your eyes to the ever-living Lord of all, who is able to save in every situation, and compassionate to all who call upon Him in faith. The kingship of Christ is our confidence when we face our own weakness and the looming darkness of the world; our Savior is stronger than all, Lord over all. He will lift up His people.
