“Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you” (Psalm 116:7, ESV).
Reflecting on God’s mercies, the psalmist turns his heart to the peace that is found in the gracious providence of the Lord. He has experienced God’s deliverance; the memory of God’s goodness brings encouragement in the present. Even amid sufferings and sorrow, we should remember the kindness of God, and find our rest in Him.
Peace is about learning to return to rest in Christ. God has loved us more than we can possibly comprehend and has reached down to give us salvation and hope that endures all the grief and hardship of this life. Let us turn our hearts to Him, repenting of sin and distraction, and relying on His grace to see us through.
