Shine on Us

“Make your face shine upon your servant, and teach me your statutes” (Psalm 119:135, ESV).

God’s kindness is our comfort and hope. The preceding verses express the psalmist’s desire for God’s help in faithful living and deliverance from the wicked. Now he turns to an emphasis on the blessing of God, expressed in the language of the priestly blessing from Numbers 6:25, “The LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you”. As the sun above shines down on us, bringing warmth and life, so the favor of God shining upon His people revives our souls.

Walk before God, and look to His favor. If we keep close to our heavenly Father, we will find in Him strength for the burdens of this life and peace through every storm. We need to remain focused on what’s most important: a relationship with the living God. He is our help and security, our strength and joy.
