Triumph

“The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? The LORD is on my side as my helper; I shall look in triumph on those who hate me” (Psalm 118:6-7, ESV).

Having reflected on God’s merciful deliverance in the past (v.5), the psalmist now fixes his courage against present and future dangers, trusting in God’s almighty strength. Twice he repeats this word of greatest assurance: “The LORD is on my side”. Truly, that is all that matters. If the omnipotent God watches over you, there is nothing at all to fear.

Stand firm in the unshakable hope of God’s conquering power. If we draw near in Jesus Christ and entrust ourselves to Him we need not fear all the powers of this world—for they are nothing compared to God. What He permits us to bear we can bear in the strength He gives; nothing can separate us from Him; His final victory is certain, and with it the deliverance of all who belong to Christ and the glory of eternity.
