“I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever. For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol” (Psalm 86:12-13, ESV). David has longed for wholehearted devotion, and now expresses wholehearted praise. We call out to God, and that is good, for we are wholly dependent on Him; but we should not neglect the place of praise in our prayers. The redeemed heart glorifies the Redeemer. The psalmist declares this in starkest terms, recognizing God’s salvation from even the place of the dead, Sheol.
Go gratefully through your day, thankful for the blessings of God. Even in hardship and danger, our Lord is with us, and worthy of all praise. Let us keep His love and grace in our thoughts, His mercies in our remembrance, so that we may worship Him wholeheartedly and fix our lives upon the cross of Christ our Savior.
